Semaglutide

The First GLP-1 Available for Weight Loss

Semaglutide is a weekly subcutaneous injection approved for the treatment of obesity. It is appropriate for patients with a BMI >30 or >27 in the presence of at least one weight-related comorbid condition (hypertension, sleep apnea, or high cholesterol).

GLP-1 is a physiological regulator of appetite and caloric intake, and the GLP-1 receptor is present in several areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation.

Semaglutide works by:

​

  • Decreasing appetite; therefore lowering caloric intake

  • Slowing gastric emptying leading to the feeling of sustained satiety

  • Stabilizing insulin levels to allow the release of stored fat

During trials, those taking semaglutide lost over SIX TIMES the amount of weight as the placebo group while making the same lifestyle changes.

***Study participants were asked to reduce caloric intake by 500 calories per day and exercise a min of 150 min per week throughout the trial.***

Possible adverse effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, dyspepsia, dizziness, flatulence, hypoglycemia, and reflux.

Contraindications:

  • Patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia II

  • Concurrent use of any other GLP-1 receptor agonists (semaglutide, ozempic, saxenda, etc.)

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Due to both cost and availability, we utilize compounded semaglutide with L-carnitine versus the brand. It is slightly more potent than the brand, but we mimic the dosage as closely as possible as that is how it has been studied.

L-carnitine, the additional ingredient, is a naturally occuring amino acid that converts fat into energy in the body. L-carnitine is present in our popular Lipo-Vite injections.

We offer weekly payments for local clients starting at $50 per week with options to pay weekly, monthly, or per vial.

Please keep in mind that minimum requirements for Semaglutide are a BMI of 30 or higher or 27 or higher with any other weight related co-morbidities. Please ensure that you fall within these parameters prior to your appointment.

Pricing starts at $299 per vial + $40 shipping and that includes the visit, 10 week supply of medication, needles, and alcohol pads. After the initial vial and increasing dosage along with ensuring tolerance of the medication, we do offer a larger 4.5 ml vial for $550 + shipping.
